and presented to the Kaiser corporation as the basis for a top-of-the-line pickup offering. Kaiser wasn't interested and this one, one of three, was the only survivor. It was taken to Posies, a Cleveland-based rod and custom shop around 2000 for a restoration but instead was customized and made into a resto-mod, with later power, suspension and interior. The color, I believe, was either similar to or matching the original concept and was retained for the rebuild.

I have not been a fan of this Kaiser generation mostly due to the bulbous hood and low greenhouse that presented a vehicle that was way out of proportion, to my eyes.

The Posies creation gave the body and bed better proportions but the greenhouse, particularly at the front, was still out of proportion as was the hood.

In the first three photos, I was looking for better greenhouse/hood proportions but did some mild custom work. The last three continued the search for better overall proportions but also include work on the bed, doors and hood to better round things off.

So, the burning question is: do any of the photo edits improve proportions or simply appeal to you more?

As found:

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (1)

Lowered cowl, pancaked hood, raised lower hood line and raised grill height:

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (2)

Lowered greenhouse and cowl (further) allowing more hood height reduction:

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (3)

Changed rear bed side contour, rounded door and hood corners and radiused the wheel wells:

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (4)

Sectioned the body and bed just below the beltline further lowering the hood height:

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (5)

Chopped the top 2-3":

47 Kaiser PU Custom PS (6)

As the edits progress, the proportions continued to change to an overall slimmer presentation.

I'd be interested in comments around both the proportions and overall body line changes.

Enjoy!

These all look good and any style of the Kaiser-Frazer "El Camino" from stock through custom would have been an attractive vehicle. Many years ago someone did their own 1:1 convertible modification of a later model Kaiser and it looked quite cool.

Even though this is a custom, I still like the as found with the factory jewelry on the front of the hood.

I like the look of pic #2 best but would retain the Kaiser name and badge on the hood.

If that were a vehicle I truly loved, I'd favor a more traditional look. But as it is, I'll happily take the very last image. To me it is significantly improved and looks wicked cool! NICE work Terry!

@jack-dodds: That wasn't one of the edits I had done so I did one for you, and Bob Jackman. Thanks for your comments.
