…until computer monitors are NOT part of a car’s instrument panel. I am not a fan, they are beyond “awkward” looking sticking out of the dash like a sore thumb. I’m not opposed to digital gauges in lieu of analog gauges, but not this new fad of ugly monitors.

Seems everything these days are being made to mimic cell phones! Touch-screens and how they operate. Many computer applications are even being transformed to work more efficiently as a cell phone. Instead of being oriented to a horizontal landscape format, they are designed now to replicate a vertical format to fit the cell phone when handheld. And on a computer screen, they look weird and smaller.

I agree Terry but I don't see that changing anytime soon. My suggestion is to buy an older car and resist the urge to mount a cell phone on the dashboard.

You'll be waiting a very long time - many decades mostly likely. Practically every vehicle built on earth, in the last 15 years and certainly going forward - has either a flat panel infotainment screen mounted upright somewhere on the dash - OR - a "pillar to pillar" horizontal infotainment screen.

I like 'em. The information they provide is far more extensive and accurate, and they offer more control over functions that were never available before, like backup cameras, maintenance schedules, navigation, vehicle settings, memory features, traffic reports, police stakeouts, suspension settings, etc. I love the old analog dashes, but they don't compare to the level of involvement the new dashes offer. Trying to do any of that on your phone is far more dangerous than a quick glance at a larger, more accessible screen.

If I had to choose just one era of car/cruiser for my daily use (as old old retired guy) I would pick a mid-60s model 2drht. The '62 thru '65 Impala, '63 Pontiac GP, '63 1/2 Galaxie 500, '65 Galaxie...just to name a few. The new features offered by these new dashboard screens are very useful for sure (as JK mentions) and offer some important visual safety features as well, but I would trade them all in a second for a 60's hardtop...lol.
Three days ago I bought a new Mitsubishi Outlander with most available upgrades and I have to say that so far I am extremely impressed with it.....but of course that is from a utility perspective (safety, visual, gas mileage, ease of operation....and all that boring but important stuff). It's a great vehicle and my wife LOVES it (important), but to me it's just transportation. Give me a 60s car to cruise around in daily and I will be a happy camper.
