This is the first I ever heard of a glass top on a forties Buick. Neat picture Galen.
Wow! There has to be a great story behind that pic!

...there were MANY custom shops in CA that fabricated Carson tops and the like back in the day. Some even did simple, painted hard tops for convertibles.... but I don't recall ever seeing anything like this. Looks professionally done, I'd sure love to know the back-story. 🤔 🤔
+1 to the above. I love car mysterys. Wonderful old pic.
I think so much of this technology was developed for bomber aircraft during the war (nose cones and machine-gun turrets) that manufacturers were keen to exploit wartime know-how in domestic products. The Wurlitzer 1100 dome being one such example.
....very cool of course, and a precursor to today's Pan-o-ramic roofs and Vista tops (does anyone have a metal top anymore, they're all glass now, right? ) but I certainly understand why these did NOT catch on. Well, at least I don't think they caught on. Obviously, Galen knew some folks who bought one. So.... 🤔 🤔
Good research there Tony & Charles!
