These are extremely collectible now. Back in 1990, you could not give them away. The car was not much worse than the Austin Marina of similar vintage. I have driven both.
Back in 1964 this 601 version was a reasonably modern car. Unfortunately, it did not improve with age being made until 1991 with not much other than an engine change and minor body changes. That 2 stroke engine certainly was smokey.
This oft ridiculed car was actually a feature prize once given out on The Forum Quiz; which was sadly cancelled after "false news" allegations of links to offshore fraudulent activity; to wit Grand Cayman Island money laundering. This particular prize, a rare Trabant SS coupe (one horsepower version) was won by a lucky Forum member who has for some reason asked to have his name not disclosed....something about keeping this chapter of his life closed. Personally, I suspect he is afraid of attracting auto thieves.
@jkuvakas Ah...that explains why your cell phone goes straight to message. Just down at George Town getting the new C-8 offloaded from the freighter. See you at happy hour.
Sorry, I can't address this issue at the moment. The tide is out at Rum Point and the snorkeling is amazing!
The Cayman Islands.....Rum Point ...........and a pier long enough to commune with monsters of the deep.....and Jack vows to arrive soon with V-8 for everyone.......Yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Clause
@jack-dodds, we'll be anchored out in the bay, the usual spot.
Roger that Cap'n Long John. Kindly send the launch from the SS Easybux to the pier at 1700 hours; I will be waiting with my new corporate secretary Ina Thong.
As good luck would have it, I researched our corporate files and found a picture of the day the prize 1-horsepower Trabant SS Coupe was delivered to the winner....whose name I will respectfully not disclose.
