Very interesting. The car ahead of the Firebird on the assembly line is a 1969 Chevrolet Caprice Coupe. I had no idea that Firebirds were built on the same assembly line as full-size Chevrolets, which is odd because the Chevrolet is body-on-frame while the Firebird is a rear unibody with a front subframe. I could understand Camaros and Firebirds sharing the same assembly line, but this is strange to me. Camaro/Firebird chassis components would have to be fitted to a jig to keep the parts lined up while the big Chevy would just drop down onto an assembled frame. Anyone familiar with GM's assembly practices in the sixties?

I'm certainly NO expert but I can tell you that at least TWO GM factories in the US produced full-sized Chevrolets along with Pontiac Firebirds in 1969. One was in Norwood OH, the other in Van Nuys CA.
The 'marriage'. A big step in completing the car. GREAT older picture Galen!
I remember visiting the GM plant in Tarrytown, NY back around 1973. They produced the Nova, Ventura, Apollo and Omega, which all shared the same chassis.
@bob-jackman If not mistaken Bob, GM came up with those appropriate names for the four similar cars, led by the Chevy.
@perrone1 I never made the connection. Thanks!
