The 'real' Paris, Texas, lies northeast of Dallas and is in part of the "Tornado Alley".
I had to do a preliminary damage survey of the tornado that devastated Paris, in April of 1982. In my reports, I made reference to the damage of one area, about 7 miles long, appearing as if the hand of God wiped that swath clean. That term stuck and was used in further reports. It killed 10 persons.
