I,for one,will always recall just where I was when NBC announced than a US entry would compete internationally for the prestigious world champion slot.

That a humble man,trained only through repeated viewings of early Road Runner episodes would one day best the Russians,Malayans and even the long time Mongolian champions.................

Fun Fact : Mongolia was the first country to report total annihilation of all pterodactyls within it`s borders

initial horizontal trajectories proved problematic in nature and were soon superseded by the vertical flight method still in use today

In the days and months leading up to the first successful flight, trajectory and powder charges were unpredictable and erratic.A crew of volunteers was formed for the express purpose of tracking down and retrieving wayward projectiles

To this very day, crowds still gather at the spot on Cherry Street where one of the earliest anvil launches had impacted.

Spirited conversations always ensue;  

…….Most still insist that the anvil had landed to the right of the lamp post. Those few stalwart souls who stuck by their guns and swore it had come to rest on the left side of the post are generally shunned
