Oh, too well, do I understand. The loyalty between car and man is an unwritten bond.
We owned four Miata's over a period of years. Two were matching silver '99's and two were Crystal Blue '01's. A direct love of my previous '67 MGB.
Great cartoon David - thanks!
Great cartoon and the bullet proof Miata is a good choice to use as a subject.
I understand what car this is from the badge and grille, but how do North Americans derive these names? Miata? Yenko? It's worse than being in France!

LOL!
But you've hit on an interesting topic. Where do these names come from. The cars with letters and numbers can drive you crazy. The Miata, a Hiroshima, Japanese car was named the MX-5 but called the Miata. The name miata derives from old high German for "reward". Yenko is the name of the performance tuner, Don Yenko, who worked on various Chevrolet cars.
@perrone1 Thanks Tony, I totally agree over the numbers issue - especially with Mercedes-Benz where a 1962 vehicle may have the same number as 1992 (dates plucked from the ether) and I've always liked U.S. names: Thunderbird, Continental, Roadmaster or Riviera - you know what they're talking about. That said, I've always known the Mazda MX5 as an MX5 - perhaps because I am in Europe!

@charles-rockett, LOL! Odd names, you say. I respond with Humber Super Snipe!

@jkuvakas You might think less about messing with a snipe - especially a super snipe - than you might with a yenko. What's he gonna' do t'ya ?
Charles I must tell you that I would rather pull the trigger on a Yenko.
@bob-jackman Names aside, you're not wrong. I shouldn't like to think of a Super Snipe's 0 - 60 time!
