it makes sense when they say there is not much of a market for two-door 2+2 cars because there are so few available that are affordable.   Of course there is no demand for something that people can not buy.  Sure, nobody wanted interior color options when it was more profitable to only offer black and gray.  Obviously people only wanted black and gray because those were our only choices for a long time.  Don't get me started on convertibles.  Must not be much of a demand even though about 40% of the Mustangs and Camaros I see around town are convertibles.  Good thing I took my blood pressure pill this morning before I started reading about four-door Camaros.

As a guy who's always had American convertibles, I would argue that reason YOU see so many Mustang & Camaro convertibles is because that's "all that's left."     There are NO other choices unless you want a Bronco or Corvette.     Therefore, guys like me are forced  into buying them.   I wouldn't even consider a Mustang or Camaro 'vert if Chrysler, Cadillac, Buick, or Lincoln had one.     😉

Perhaps they can call it the Corvair?

Christopher, I think we are basically on the same page here.  Perhaps I see younger people driving Mustang and Camaro convertibles, perhaps they bought them slightly used, more affordable.  That is just my guess because new Mustang and Camaro convertible's were not affordable to younger people.  Had to wait until the cars were aftermarket.

I was very fortunate, in my early to mid-20s I could afford some nice, full size convertibles.  I had a full size new Buick convertible in 1975, then a new 1976 Eldo convertible.  Typically people my age could not afford these convertibles back in the day

In my old age, I would be hesitate to spend $60-120 thousand on a new 'vert if Chrysler, Cadillac, Buick, or Lincoln' offered.  I would never consider spending $50,000 on a Mustang or Camaro.

My point is, GM and others need to get back to their pony cars, offer a sporty two-door 2+2 coupe or a convertible for under $38,000:

A pony car is an affordable, compact, and highly styled American two-door coupe or convertible featuring a long hood and short rear deck, designed for a sporty image.

Of course I would like a mid-size convertible that does not cost me +$40,000.  Mid-size is the key word.  In the meantime I will enjoy my low mileage 2011 Camaro 2LT, and my 1966 T-Bird convertible.  I don't need 400-600 HP to enjoy my cars.

@abaucom  The problem is that domestic OEMs will NEVER again manufacture cars I really like: 2-dr convertibles & coupes, or even "pony cars"  in numbers.   Those days are long gone.   Even if they pumped out 2-dr 'verts & coupes for $30,000 or less..... NO ONE WOULD BUY THEM.   Base '26 'Stangs are $32K, but no one cares.... yearly sales continue to decline.   😔 😔

The aging demographic  for such cars dwindles daily - for obvious reasons.   I'm 61, NO ONE cares what I want; "kids"  in their 20's, 30's, and even 40's, more or less, desire 4-dr SUVs, pickup trucks, and ALL the latest technology.

If a 2028 Camaro convertible does not arrive - and it seems unlikely that it will - then I'll have to  buy a Mustang convertible.   I don't want a Vette or Bronco so what other American choices do I have?

PS

I don't need 400 - 600 HP either (I've never been a speed freak ) but in 2026, many turbo-4's & 6's can pump that out.   I've got a turbo-4 in a GM coupe now and it's plenty fast.   V8's are in the 500 - 1,000 HP range.   Holy crap, right!  😬 😬 😬
