Interesting Video. You can see why the new automatic's make the cars faster, than trying to shift.

@carsman1958, yes, indeed. I'm not sure the driver in the Mustang was all that quick at shifting, though. Still, you're right. The new automatics are much quicker than any manual. I can't help but feel that something is being lost in the way way of involvement, though.

Back in 1957 we used to laugh at cars with automatics as being slugs, then Chrysler came out with the Torque Flight transmission which changed everything.
