I agree about the Connie.  It's the one flaw to an otherwise incredible looking car.

@georgeschire To my eye the tail end of the '56 Ford is beautiful; I never tire of the look.  When I see the continental kit covering it up it seems a shame.

Back in 1960 I bought a 1956 Fairlane hardtop which I thought was one the prettiest cars around. Mine had factory A/C. When I went into the Navy I lost my storage and so I sold the car...too bad.

I think if I am fortunate enough to purchase a vintage care in the near future (I had better get on with it.....I'm 71...lol) my choice would be this '56 Fairlane HT or '55 Chevy Bel-Air HT.  Lots of other great choices of course but these two move me the most.

No argument from me Jack.  The '56 Ford is one of the most beautiful Fords ever.

Lol Jack, your 'tired old whine' is probably tasteless by now so consider pouring yourself a nice, new glass of Chablis.

Or, whatever floats your boat this Saturday afternoon.

Lol

@100ford2003 Coincidentally Steve, that is just what my wife and I (and Otis of course) did this afternoon; sat out on the back deck soaking up the sun with various cheeses, crackers, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives and a *bottle of pinot gris.  Lovely!

* Actually it was a bottle and a half......almost two.  Otis can really pound 'em back.

@jack-dodds, ironically, your meal was very continental.

@georgeschire 1955 & '56 Fords were really no bigger than the 1949-'54 models but clever styling made them look much longer. Also, it's widely agreed that the subtle 1956 trim changes enhanced the initial '55 design themes. This was some-what rare in the 1950's...a time when "more"  meant "more extreme & tasteless."

1956 Fords are very nice looking cars, especially in Coral & Black (lifted, by the way, right from the Mystere concept car ). 😎

I too, like the '56 trim changes, minor grill changes, and the much more attractive dashboard, make the '56 nicer to look from the beautiful '55 styling.  Sadly (in my opinion) Ford should have stayed with the '56 styling for another year (or so) with buy minor adjustments.  But the '57, though still attractive, lost (again in my opinion) the excellence of the '56.
