Being a newer member of the DZ I have to say I too miss the old format... seems to me many of the comments and reviews with all their wonderful information are missing, here’s hoping for the future improvements ...

It is extremely difficult to find anything efficiently with the current database search functions. I am sure having the database resurrected was the first and the biggest step, now if the developers can make it more user friendly it will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry but this "list" is a hodge podge of all models ever made! Nothing broken down into groups.It looks like an after-thought. You should not have to go through the whole list to find something.

While no system is ever perfect, I used the old system for years and have used this one as it slowly evolves, since December. I prefer by far the current system which seems fairly easy to follow. It gives me options in posting which I prefer and which were not available with the original. The search function works quite well, especially if the posts clearly label the topic. Of course, there are good reasons why we don't always do that.

David, I was talking about “The car list and reviews” - the modes database, not about the message board. I think you clearly are talking about the forums, I agree the search function the forums is excellent. I can’t imagine anyone would be happy withe the way “The car list …” works, it is so rudimentary.

I agree about the car list and reviews. I was actually replying to those looking for a return to the old format. This one is still a work in progress but has a lot of excellent points.

Ultimately I am happy the car list database is intact and published, because that is the biggest asset of this site, and at some point I was really afraid that we are not going to see it back. I can navigate it, but the functionality is way bellow what it used to be.

The functionality will come eventually. The move to the new site has been a massive but necessary expense. I'm actually hoping the auctions will become functional sooner than the list. The auctions will, at least, bring in some revenue to help fund the rest of the changes that need to be made. As David says, it's all a work in progress.

The major problem was that the old site had not only become extremely expensive to operate, but it was also in danger of collapse as it was assembled on dangerously outmoded architecture. I know there are a lot of people who preferred the old sight, mostly because it was so familiar. The truth is, if we had continued as it was, we would most likely have nothing at all at this point. 

I, for one, am thankful that Kevin and Michelle made the commitment to keep the forums and the other features functional.
