I'm sure with the safety record of current airline travel this would be totally unnecessary.
Besides, even with the incredible safety record of travel by air, the vast majority of airline accidents occur on takeoff or landing. This technology would provide little value in those circumstances. Also, I'm guessing the sudden change of center of gravity on the plane would throw it further out of control. Perhaps Michael Delbuck will see this and chime in.

Airplane escape pod
I'm sure this would work well in some cases.....
"All flight attendants,please come to the cockpit."
"What's going on,Captain?"
"There's a terrorist aboard.We're dropping the pod."
