But taken Rover outside its traditional market placement, building cars for the upper middle class.
Sticking to their knitting proved to be successful- that is until the British motor industry went to war, civil war where reason and good sence deserted people with workers and management slugging it out together eventually destroying Britains car industry.

Quite right Bruce. My sister and her husband had a contract with Rover in the mid-90s to try to resolve the very long standing resentment between the workers and management. Try as they might and even including the very clear communication to both sides that without change their jobs, pension viability and the company was doomed, the behavior was so entrenched that everyone lost ultimately. They were stunned that this occurred but explained to me that British labor vs. management attitudes went back hundreds of years.
