and, given the stance, I couldn't resist some photo edits.

As found:

Mildly dechromed:

With a slight top chop:

The chop and a mild section:

And, without bumpers:

As usual, your comments and preferences are welcome.

1940 Mercury's are great cars for customs mods ! They always seem to look good.

This particular body style really benefits from your "tweaks" Terry.  I like the last example best.

How time can sometime change your opinion of things. When I was 16 in 1956 I had a 1950 Mercury coupe which I bought with money I earned working in a drug store. The first thing I did after paying off the car was to shave the hood, deck lid and door handles. If I owned the car today I would want it completely stock with all of the trim on it.

@bob-jackman: I  understand this, Bob. You may have noticed, that most of my edits now retain door handles as a nod to originality and access. This wasn't the case in my earlier edits. I also understand your love for originality and respect same. You've become respectful of my custom edits even though you are not a fan of them, which I appreciate. Thanks for your ongoing input, I do value it.

I was of the same mindset back in the day too Bob.  I really liked seeing the mildly customized cars; especially the shoebox Fords, torpedo back Chevys, 49-51 Mercs and such rumbling by.  The Deuces etc. were great as well but my crowd went more for the post war cars to customize.  Most of our cars were mildly customized simply because that's was generally all that my crowd could afford. Unfortunately I was just an onlooker to all of it because, as I was just a part time gas jockey and grease monkey, it was all I could do to just keep my cars in gas and repairs.  Lol.  Also by the time I was old enough to drive in 1968 the customizing craze was fading and starting to be replaced by pony and muscle cars, which I really loved!  Today I much prefer stock condition vintage cars.
