My 1981 Low-Rider: both tank lids can be opened.

My 2001 Road-King: only the right side of the tank.

My 1972 Corvette: tank-lid on top of the rear-deck.

My 2000 Blazer: left side

My 1991 Peugeot Motor-Home: on the left side.

My 2001 Suzuki Wagon R: left side.

Corinne's 2003 Suzuki Wagon R: left side.

My 2008 Yamaha scooter: under the seat.

Seems like left-siders are most.

But the Corvette has the most fantastic one.

I prefer them on the left side for one single reason…there’s ALWAYS a driver in the vehicle…I would also accept them behind the license plate (like most of my cars back in the day).  I used to travel a lot & that required rental cars & I absolutely hated gettin a car with the fuel filler door on the right…I’d always pull up on the wrong side - grrrr!

When you are handicapped and need a cane to walk, walking around the car to pump gas sucks especially with a wind chill factor in the single digits.

Cane in car for short distances the high walker every where else, pumping gas sucks when you own a Subaru.

@brush…is that the cane you use? I’m curious because I am also handicapped & use a “Hurry-Cane”whenever I venture outdoors…

I prefer it on the left. I find it more convenient, and when approaching the pumps, it is easier to judge distance between pumps and car. I/we have had Japanese cars since 1972. Mazda and Honda cars I/we owned have filler on left. Datsun/Nissan on the right. A Toyota I thought about buying had it on the right.

My wife uses a Hurry-Cane at home and for short 'trips' here and there but a run-of-the-mill Walgreen's walker for longer distance outings. I like that walker!

Case perfectly stated Ed!! That's my main reason for preferring the left side - easier to judge distances. And the ones I have had where it is in the very back of the vehicle, necessitate moving too far forward when someone is in front of you at their pump, and especially if THEIR filler is in the back as well.
