YES it does! Soon as we old timers see a cap gun, we instantly remember the smell of the fired cap. I'd no sooner fire all the caps in my gun, then unroll another, feed it to the hammer slot and be ready for another 100 shots out of my 6 shooter. LOL! What fun.

Since I was always an "innovater" I would take the whole roll and hit it with a hammer. Loved that decibel level !

OMG! the last time I would have thought of a cap gun would have been 60+ years ago. You guys would have able to buy fireworks (crackers) too back then? The fun we had. The burns, half the neighborhood scared out of its wits!

In certain areas of certain states, fireworks are still legal here.

I live out in the county, not part of the city limits in rural foothills of Great Smoky Mountains. Fireworks are NOW on sale. They pop up about now in previously empty lots under a tent, usually.

I don't do it any longer since, from here we see distant fireworks in the lower valleys of two neighboring towns.

Fireworks 7 4 20 B

Previously 20+ years ago, our neighbors and I bought a plethora of the stuff and put on a show for our street. A lot of work but a lot of fun!

HA!   I smelled that just yesterday!    ..... I lit a road flare, then crammed it down a gopher hole to chase him out.      But yeah, it was all very "cap gun like!"

These were fun too - although I think the "rings"  were more of a 1970's thing.  🤔

On the fourth of July, the reservoir we live on and two country clubs, which are close, put on fireworks displays we can see from our home. We turn up the volume on the television set to help drown out the fireworks as our dog and cat are frightened of them.

@bob-jackman Kind of the same set-up where I live.   We can sit out front (or in the back ) and watch (and smell ) a great show.... I posted a few pics last year but can't find them now (I must've deleted them ).

I simply can't believe that in just a few weeks....  July 4th will be here again!    This may be the fastest year of my life!  😬 😬 😬

I sure know what you mean Chris and in my experience it gets faster with each passing year.  Why is it that when a person is retired and has all the time in the world to waste/enjoy, the months and seasons just scream by?  Even when every day I make a concerted effort to slow things down and "smell the roses" (and the coffee) the pace remains the same.  Very strange indeed!

So sad that our world is so rotten today that innocent things like cap guns and playing Cowboys and Indians as kids are only a memory from a kinder and gentler time.  Sadly, there's no turning back.

I think it has something to do with no longer being a "clock watcher."    Even if one loves their job, they still watch clocks....       Now, I'm often not even certain what day it is. 😬 😬 😬

I remember as a kid my dad would always get "cherry bombs".🧨
