.for a decade or so,I used to "read" a book each day or so.......there was a story about an Inuit warrior who crossed the ocean in a hewn kayak.....this guy eventually got up to no-good,always to the accompaniment of his fabulous OBSIDIAN knife......does any of this ring a bell with any of you?.....the story may have been pure folderol, but I`ve kinda gotten obsessed with nailing down the title...and maybe even revisiting the book itself
There are legends concerning an Inuit man (Finnman) who paddled to Scotland in 1728. But, he allegedly died within days of arriving.

Interesting John....do you suppose it might`v been the Scotch eggs?
the story I`m referring to, was a work of fiction.... I seem to recall "reading" "Snow Crash" right around the same time....I have searched Snow Crash for any instance of the word "obsidian",but got no positive results
Was the book Savage Empire?
or....
Where We Found a Whale by Brian Fagan.
thank you Lloyd......your suggestions are much appreciated.....they also serve to remind me that my communication skills are somewhat lacking
I just now found what I`d been looking for...this time using only the word "kayak" to search the book (it`s about 200 pages in)
.."Snow Crash".... "a science fiction novel by American writer Neal Stephenson, published in 1992"
The Inuit I`d remembered was actually an Aleut....and there was NO direct mention of an "Obsidian" knife....not in so many words
here is an excerpt
