Kelly and I visited the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN today. We went primarily to see Randy Rusk's display of models. But, we were pleasantly surprised with a thoroughly enjoyable tour of the facility.
First, we were greeted by a very amiable man at the entrance. He spoke highly of Randy and encouraged us to look at several display cases that were not with the main display of models.
Randy's area is prominently featured with a large article reproduced in the center of the display.
Here's the area:
And here are some of his cabinets.
There were a LOT of interesting RVs and trailers
At least one of them showed excellent taste and refinement in their color choice.
About a dozen years ago, on our way to a family wedding in Wisconsin, we spent the night in Elkhart, IN. We enjoyed a surprising good Italian dinner in that town. Never knew the hall of fame existed.
Wow, I'm really impressed with this museum. The variety of 1/1 RVs is really impressive and Randy's miniature contributions are outstanding. Thanks for sharing this with us John.
That looks like a great place. It is on my list for this year. Hopefully things will improve.
My work changed our Paid Time Off Policy this year. I get 6 weeks of vacation, + 1.5 carried over from last year. We can't carry over any going forward, so I have to use it or lose it. I need to make some fun plans.
Great images of the museum, John ! I was there a number of years back and took my mom there to see the displays. As a young girl, her family had a Covered Wagon trailer which my grandfather towed behind their 1936 Chrysler Airflow on vacations. Also, my dad got a big GMC motorhome which we had in the family for years, so the vehicles brought back many memories, especially for her.
Both GMC and Dodge were among my dad's clients, so before he got a GMC motorhome for the family, he occasionally had use of a big Dodge-platformed motorhome and another one that I can't recall now, but was at the museum.
The model section was smaller back then, (2008 ?) but included some very cool replicas. Now, it certainly is a great-expanded treat !
What a fascinating subject. I watched a video recently of companies that convert regular bus (charabanc) chassis into mobile homes for rock stars and retired executives, and the prices and features were astronomical - though I would rather the floral chintz and wicker furniture of a traditional caravan myself! Many thanks for sharing your trip with us.
@paul-rouffa Paul, they actually did make it. You can see more photos of it here. It's a hard one to find on the second hand market. In fact, it's one of the few campers I've yet to put in the museum display (but I will...eventually).
