It is a clever trap most of us fall into !
My youngest granddaughter said to me about 10 years ago (she's 17 now), that she didn't want to grow up. I told her that when it comes to her dolls and love of Disney World, she never has to. I went on to tell her that she can always collect dolls and enjoy Disney all her life. To date, she's continued to do both. My advice comes from my own experience. I collected comics as a kid and model cars, and I've never stopped enjoying both to this very day. I'll be 72, and I'm still a kid. In our wrong and hard world today, we all need a release. STAY A KID!

HELLOOOO....Mr.Wilson!
Being a kid was great (we didn't realize it at the time), growing up was good, growing old SUCKS; most of your family & friends are dead and doctors & hospitals eat your life savings & PAIN becomes a way of life. But oohwell, life goes on & it is better than the alternative, I guess! What about heaven??
@georgeschire Well said George. For several years now I have thought about selling my collection and then I think, that my cars are a real thrill every day when I look at them and the memories they provide. Lori has her miniatures and I have my cars and as long as they provide us with smiles, they will be a part of our lives until the day we are no longer here.
@georgeschire Well said George. I feel the same way. Still a kid and still building models. Started when I was probably around 8. I remember going to a store called Charles and Sons and buying model kits for .99 cents. This was back in the sixties. What is funny is that those same kits I bought back then are still be offered today, but now are $30. Anyway I continue to collect my diecast and now that 1/24 collectible models are being made I went back to building my models. Feel like a kid again.
Jay North who played Dennis (the Menace) on TV is the same age as me and many of others here in the Lounge.

Bob, you nailed it. There is not a day that goes by that I don't spend at least a little time to just sit and look at my cars. The fun thing is, every time, a different car or two seems to catch my eyes and it is like it's brand new again. Sometimes I'll see two cars next to each other, and decide that they would look better in another place on the shelves or next to a different car. To me, that's "playing" with my cars. And those "smiles" you speak of, they are real.

I chuckled with your "buying model kits for .99 cents" comment, followed by, "still offered today, but now are $30". I'd only remind you that it's easy to see that as a lot, but while doing so, don't forget that back in the sixties, average annual incomes were under $15K a year, while today, they closer to $110K a year. So in the simplest analogy, those models cost relatively the same today as back then.

Well Bruce although I have no travel brochure info about heaven, my heart (and faith) tells me it will be my destination choice when my "big holiday" date arrives as the alternative, although apparently warm, is just not for me. The choice may be out of my hands however, but whatever direction I end up going at least the price will be right and it's "all inclusive."!
