What happens when a driverless car gets pulled over by the police?
a driverless Cruise car — apparently driving at night without its headlights on — is seen getting pulled over by San Francisco police. As a police officer approaches the driver’s side, he notices… no driver.
As the befuddled officer walks back to his car, the Cruise starts back up and crosses an intersection, before stopping again in front of a restaurant on Clement Street, in the city’s Richmond District. The police car follows, and officers get out and inspect the unoccupied vehicle in more detail, before one makes a call
Interesting! I wonder if the Police were just curious. The autonomous car seemed well lit despite no headlights. Personally, I want no part of these vehicles and would like them banned if no-one is at the controls. Too much can go wrong. Yes I know, real drivers are dangerous too.
I found it interesting that officers repeatedly approached the driver side door as if expecting some outcome that would eventually produce a seated driver
I wonder if this clip is staged. The cars in the area are relatively new as is the driverless one obviously, yet the police car is an old Ford; which should have been mileaged out years ago with SFPD usage. Plus...what police team ride one in front and one in the back? Hmmm.......
