Here's a spy pic of the new "Mustang GTD."
It may not be mid-engined in the way we were thinking. It looks like the engine will be further behind the front wheels than the standard Mustang making it a mid-engine in a technical sense. Either way, it will be a radical machine made more for the track than the street. Ford plan to unveil it later today.

John; I assume that placing the engine back will greatly improve track handling. As Bob J. speculated, removal of the rear seat would likely be necessary and since it is a track car it would make no difference. It will be interesting to see if this design/engineering change eventually makes it into production of the Shelby or similar hi-performance Mustang. As we all know the average Mustang buyer has a regular use for a back seat in their car so this feature would continue of course.
