The year is 1959, what kind of car are you looking for? How about a look at two extreme options for that year. At the "little" end, here's a choice...

1959 AMC Metropolitan Convertible

1959 AMC Metro politan Conv 1
1959 AMC Metro politan Conv 2
1959 AMC Metro politan Conv 3
1959 AMC Metro politan Conv 4

and now for the top end, large and in charge with an extra dose of bold for good measure -- who'd guessed that at this point in time both of these cars would be under the same automotive brand banner, in a manner of speaking

1959 Imperial Crown Hardtop Sedan

1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 1
1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 2
1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 3
1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 4
1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 5
1959 Imperial Crown Hd Sdn 6

Love that Metropolitan. Enjoyed several drives in one back in the 1950s. Certainly, two extremes here. Thanks for this whole series of show images, John

One extreme to another....lol.  Thanks John.  I recall there were very many Nash Metropolitans on the roads in my city as a kid.

Wonder if one could fit that Metro in the Imperial's trunk?

Cool pics John!

Extreme to sure. I would prefer the big and bold Imperial for the comfort and safety factors. Today our roads are overtaken with large trucks and SUVs. You wouldn't stand a chance in the Metropolitan. Great pics of course!

Thanks John M. Two things I remember about the Metropolitan that I owned years ago is how spacious it was for a small car and the large hood ornament. Nicely built cars but underpowered for today's traffic.

Just like the Crossley featured here the other day these little cars, while maybe not exactly stylish, are so cute you just can't not like them!

Regarding this year Imperial; the grille is, to my eye at least, very coarse and ill suited to the space it occupies; like some customizer's faux pas.  I really like the shoulder years of this car (especially the '60) but not the '59.
