The Year is 1922 (actually fits 1900 better than 1922)
The year is 1922, "One hundred years ago."Â
What a difference a century makes!Â
Here are some statistics for the Year 1922:Â
 Â
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years. Fuel for cars was sold in drug stores only. Only 14 percent of homes had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of homes had a telephone. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. The average US wage in 1922 was 22 cents per hour. The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2,000 per year. A dentist earned $2,500 per year. A veterinarian between $1,500 and 4,000 per year. And, a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births took place at home Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND in the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women washed their hair once a month. and, used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed law prohibiting poor people from entering into their country for any reason. The Five leading causes of death were: 1 Pneumonia and influenza 2 Tuberculosis 3 Diarrhea 4 Heart disease 5 Stroke The American flag had 45 stars ... The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was only 30. Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet. There was neither a Mother's Day nor Father's Day. Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write And, only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were available over the counter at local drugstores. Back then pharmacists said: "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach, bowels, and is a perfect guardian of health!" (Shocking?) Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help... There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A.Â
Men's ave. life expectancy only 47 years? ....Hmmm, seems a bit low. 🤔 🤔 🤨 🤔  And no gas stations before 1922?  Really?
Good point Christopher. I had not checked this as thoroughly as I should. Here is a quick review based on Google. Life expectancy in 1900 was 47. By 1922 it was 58.8, but only if you removed the WWI losses and great Spanish flu from the data. If you were alive in 1922, would be expected to live 58.8 years, on average.
First USA gas station is debated but most feel 1913 (1909 is one claim). In 1922, most gasoline for cars was bought from general hardware stores or drug stores, not gas stations as we now know them.
Something else that does not seem correct, the American flag had only 45 stars. I thought it would be 48. New Mexico and Arizona became states before 1922. They were numbers 47 and 48 or 48 nd 47.

Hi Ed,
I got this one from a friend via internet and did not do enough checking. I’m leaning to this being around for a while, in fact, I’m pretty sure it goes to the millennium, 2000. Most of the information is correct for 1900.
Anyway, interesting to me but 22 years out of date, I guess. I’ve added a qualifier to the heading.
Â
Or thereabout. Ford never specified a year for his Model T cars.
Okay, I checked and missed it a few years(But I'm not sure which way!)Â Â Here's what Google says:
| Year | Production | Price for Runabout |
|---|---|---|
| 1922 | 1,301,067 | $319 |
| 1923 | 2,011,125 | $364 |
| 1924 | 1,922,048 | $265 |
| 1925 | 1,911,705 | $260 |
