As a parallel to Graeme's post we on the 'mainland' are in exactly the same boat, though today it was reported that the Mediterranean Sea was recording water temperatures of 73-76F around the northern rim, including France, Italy and Spain. It has become more of a heated swimming pool than a cooling off refuge. At this moment, the outside temperature where we are in mid-southeastern Germany is 98F. It has cooled a tad since 15:00, which is the peak-heat time of day, here. Tomorrow 101-104F is forecast. This is the hottest summer on record, for Europe, and it doesn't appear to be easing up any time soon. Keep in mind, less than 6% of German households have A/C. We do have thunderstorms forecast for Sunday, but that may change.

We had temps of 116-118F here in Melbourne last summer. One town in the north of the state of Victoria recorded 120F.

That's nuts! Of course my kitchen, when I make Texas Chili, gets that hot.

The gods be a capricious lot and today they deigned to give us rain, proving once again their reign is not a total waste of time.
