I was reading the new Hemmings CLASSIC CAR (Sept.) and found Pat Foster's article "What's the Deal?" Starting with an old advertisement, he traced the history of the Deal automobile and found that at least one survived, that one on display in its hometown of Jonesville, Michigan.

And right now the town is trying to save the factory where the Deal was built.

I like to hear of these small car companies that served only the local market, the same way Deal had as a successful carriage/wagon manufacturer. I think the most successful of these attempts was Studebaker.

Has anyone seen the Deal in Jonesville?

Isn't $1295 quite expensive for a car back then? Anyway, one way the town could make sure the Deal

Building is preserved is to re-configure the interior as residential apartments. There are many downsides to this in a rural or semi-rural environment but if the people behind the restoration are creative enough good things can and often do happen.
