I am wary of intruding into JK's "What If?" franchise, but while resting from my recent labours I have been fooling around a little and, still eager to offend the sensibilities of automotive purists, I thought I'd try you with this. Online searches didn't come up with anybody trying this as a 1:1, but I sure they must have (unless their fellow car enthusiasts forcibly restrained them from even considering it.)

I have turned up all my browser filters to the max in order to minimise the barrage of hate mail which I expect may come my way.

Suicide doors would have at least made it a consideration but again like the 4 door Tbird in 67 goes against what a Thunderbird is.  ✌️👨‍🦳

Actually, that one works fairly well with the extended wheelbase and two more doors. That said, the body style is less than pleasing to my eye. Thanks for sharing this edit.

Graeme, that looks as well designed as it would if Ford did the actual exercise themselves. To my mind, a four-door T-Bird would have been feasible had there been no other four-door Ford models to cannibalize their sales.

Ford actually did this....  however, top management decided to "formalize"  the front & rear, called it Lincoln  and launched the vehicle in 1961; it was a huge success!  😏 😏

Forgive me if I'm flogging a dead horse here, but I'm still in "doodling" mode and it occurred to me that if you don't really approve of a T-Bird stretched to Lincoln size, you might prefer a Lincoln cut down to T-Bird size. After all, both started out as the same body concept so it isn't all that improbable.

So you think I'm just being silly? Hah! I'm just getting started.

An anguished groan arose amongst the increasingly restive audience, but quite undaunted he continued on his merry way.

All kidding aside Graeme and not to cast a positive or negative vote (yet) this exercise of yours is first class. The conceptual origins and execution thereof is awesome! Add the background and they are positively amazing!

OK, (now) my personal critique: The 2 door Lincoln is really nice; especially if rendered as a convertible. The 4 door Riv loses something in transition from personal motor car to family-oriented sedan. The Vistacruiser dually is so 'out there' that I love it!

Fun to see your doodling Graeme. In all honesty, I hope that your endeavors to make a living wage were successful because car design wouldn't have been one of them IMO. As a wordsmith and conversationalist you are superb, also IMO.

Sir, you have shattered my car designer dreams beyond repair. Words fail me. Doesn't leave me a lot to live for.

@graeme-ogg No need for concern. My endorsement or criticism of your work means nothing as witnessed by those around me. In reality my words may be all you need to become the head designer at a major automobile manufacturer......but I wouldn't count on it.
