As far as the health benefits are concerned, that is only the start. Once one has carried out this basic warm-up exercise, typically 5 or 6 times in the course of an afternoon and evening, the resulting physiological response quite naturally leads one to move on to the next exercise stage, which is crawling. Crawling is a bodyweight exercise that trains multiple muscle groups, including the hands, shoulders, glutes, hip flexors, abs, calves, chest, elbows, wrists, forearms, groin, hamstrings, and lats. It also provides a great cardio workout.

Performing these exercises naked is purely a matter of personal choice, although if one is a socially sensitive being, feelings of concern for the emotional revulsion felt by any bystanders may be a deciding factor (unless one is past caring by that point).

Some experts also point out that if the exercise routine described above leads to persistent projectile vomiting, additional muscle groups are usefully brought into play. It can also form part of an effective weight-loss strategy.

Next time: An advanced physio workout involving brandy in a heavy cut-glass decanter.
