....some of you may have seen my '63 Pontiac "The Farmer" hood scoop fix in the 1/18 Forum. Another issue on my radar was the front wheels:
- I wanted whitewalls.
- I wanted to narrow the front wheel track (that's just a hair too wide ).
Admittedly, if I wasn't swapping tires, I wouldn't have bothered with the track, but since I was "messing around" in that area anyway, why not, right?
Like the hood scoop fix, this too was a straightforward and quick (about 1.5 hours ) project. Basically, I sliced off a few mm from the backs of the wheel mounts and shortened the spindles. The best way to shave down or slice off something round is to use washers as guides.
Next, I secured small blocks between the spindle "arms," drilled center holes, and used screws & washers to secure the now shortened wheel mounts.
Lastly, I reattached the wheels.... a n d .... Done EZ-Peezy!
With a functional scoop, whitewalls, and a scale track.... I now feel better about HW61's wonderful '63 Pontiac drag car. 😎 😎 😎
This looks great and it is a terrific model automobile to display. I have Highway 61 standard 1963 Pontiac Tempest in gold/brown with the 326 CID V-8 and red line tires and it is also a favorite.
Yes, indeed! You've done a great job of making it "Period correct" with the whitewalls. Now all you gotta do is paint the hub cover and the lugnuts and you're ready to hit the strip!
amazing skill on display there Chris, thanks for posting these.
