I was admiring my collection today, mostly checking out my latest, the ‘58 Bonnie, can’t seem to get enough of it. Suddenly, out of nowhere my eyes fixed on a model I hadn’t thought about in a long time, the DM ‘40 Ford woody station wagon in maroon. I pulled it off the shelf and started checking it out like it was something new to me. I don’t think I had appreciated how damn nice it was when I first acquired it, I was actually kind of disappointed that I didn’t hold off for the original blue version. Looking it over it dawned on me that this was the perfect color for the car, it complements the woodwork beautifully. What a great model!
Kevin, I do exactly the same thing you do. I go through my collection and suddenly stop and look at something else, take it down and examine it closely which is what your post had me doing with this jewel of a model. When the woodies came out there was no hesitation on my part I had to have them resulting in my having both colors. I can't say that I favor one over the other as both look fantastic with the wood.
@bob-jackman Thanks Bob, I’m glad I’m not the only one fondling my toys. Here’s another woody I’ve always been drawn to. It could be partly nostalgia as I built a Hubley metal kit years ago in almost the exact color. (Of course it looked primitive compared to this one) To me, the Model A station wagon is the quintessential “woody”. The DM model does’t really scream at you to pull it out and examine it, but once you do you start admiring all of the workmanship and attention to detail. Lovely little model!
I agree with you Jack, blue is my color, but when the maroon model came up for sale at a stupid low price, I jumped on it. When I received it I just loved how the color looked with the woodwork. I think that an awesome color for the’40 woody would be the Cloudmist Gray.
