In the "old days" in Illinois, one would buy a new front and rear automobile license plate each year, courtesy of the inmates at the State Prison ! My maternal Grandfather would collect the older plates and nail them up in the old garage at the Riverside, IL house.
I still have this 1950 plate that probably was on Grandma and Grandpas's new 1949-50 Lincoln Cosmopolitan cream-colored coupe. Someday it might be fun to mount it on a car and drive about on Halloween night ! I can hear the officer calling in for a license plate check on a "1950 Illinois passenger plate # 704 708" Lol ! (I wonder if ghosts can be detained and arrested ?)
probably ONLY if that officer has a sense of humor.
I remember these yearly license plate changes. However, I did not keep any. Do you have any more?

Grandpa had a number of them hanging up in the garage but I am not sure how many of those are still around. I know I still have a couple of license plates that were on my used 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Estate station wagon that dated probably from the 1990's or so. Now days in Illinois, you keep the plates but get a new sticker for it each year.
thats great Mike. I was born in 1950!
Alas, I have a new-looking license plate but the beautiful car itself has disappeared into the mists of time ........
