While my Grandfather was Assistant Chief Engineer at Diamond-T Trucks in Chicago one of the big contracts they had from the U.S. government was for various trucks and vehicles for the United Stated Armed forces during World War II and also those of allied governments and armed forces.
The family story was that a tiny math error was included somehow on this plate and Grandpa was absolutely mortified that he didn't initially catch it, so he collected and bought up the pure aluminum data plates and later re-used them for some projects he was working on. After his death in October, 1957 I collected a few of these items and here is one I still have.
Yup. That be an error all right. I can see why he was mortified.
