Many years ago, I got this Lesney Models of Yesteryear 1926 Bugatti automobile in blue It is a very cool racer and in the early 1970's my Dad got this full-size reproduction Bugatti racer in blue for one of his automotive clients. Here, Ron, one of my younger brothers poses behind the wheel in our driveway.
The Lesney looks great in the glamor shot but your brother looks even better in the repro-Bug photo! Cool memories!!
What a COOL beast to have in the driveway....the talk of the neighborhood I'm sure! I have these two (red and blue) MBox MOYs in my collection.
"...my Dad got this full-size reproduction Bugatti racer in blue for one of his automotive clients."
Qualify "got this." You mean to say, your father purchased this as a gift for one of his clients? Or he was tasked with finding one for his client? Or did you mean to say, "my Dad got this FROM one of his clients?" Or....?
Dad obtained this reproduction Bugatti, but I don't know under what arrangement or conditions it was purchased for the client. It was at our house for a short time and one of my younger brothers posed behind the wheel with it.
It matched MoY pretty well and I remember seeing it but not actually riding in it. Dad also had a dune buggy at our house (Coyote ?) that was destined for an associate or client.
During 1967, a brand-new Dodge Monaco was briefly at our house before a parade that Grand Marshal actor Hugh O'Brian was going to ride aboard in an upcoming event. I remember wishing we could keep that automobile as a newer upgrade to our family's 1966 Dodge Monaco 4-door hardtop and 1965 Custom 880 station wagon, lol !
@michaeldetorrice Thanks..... I was curious because to receive OR give away such an extraordinary "gift" was quite a generous act. Either your father's clients were most grateful OR your dad was super nice! 😉
Here is my replica 1927 Bugatti 35 that I owned back in the 1970s and 80s. It was on a Karmann Ghia chassis with a VW1600 engine. I think that I posted this a few years ago.
Fun car to drive. It had a 80 pound counterweight in the nose, a VW gas heater and a crashed Cessna instruments. The second image shows some of my other 'toys' at the time.
Here are the three versions of the Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Bugattis, together with another image of my Bugatti replica. I like the authentic blue on Micheal's car.
The red was the most common version.
The blue was the most common colour for the real car but more scarce than the Lesney red one.
This green one is extremely rare. It may be pre-production.
Oh my goodness David - that was wicked cool! With a top, you were able to drive it in rain - not that I would take it out in bad weather. Awesome!!
Dad definitely was super nice ! He also had a number of appreciative clients in the automotive, telecommunication and other fields, so they were happy to have him as their advertising/exhibition go-to contact. A couple of his major clients were GMC Trucks, Dodge, Fiat, Clark Equipment and much earlier, Plymouth.
@david-green I absolutely love that car David. It had to be a blast to drive. The wheels really set off the look.
