Because my Dad's exhibit company had several automotive clients and was involved in several auto shows around the country, especially in Chicago, I got to see many shows from about 1957 or so. This magazine-type brochure is from the 1968 show. This show was held once again at Chicago's International Amphitheater because the huge new McCormick Place exhibition hall had been destroyed by fire just before the 1967 show. The giant new hall was re-built at the lakefront for the 1971 show.
You may recognize all the cars .... and some of the automotive executives pictured. Mr. John DeLorean is shown when he was president at Chevrolet.
Excellent ! Like all those car annual shows, it was a true wonderland every year, whether it was the sensational automobiles or the gorgeous young gal models !
Mike, Did your Dad do the 1968 Kansas City, Mo auto show. That is the only one I have been to.
Love it Mike, how about the little Honda amongst all the huge Imperials, Dodges etc? I used to love going to the Melbourne Motor Show and bringing home all the brochures.
Lol, yes, I collected all the brochures, too. I am not sure if the exhibit company he eventually was a Vice President at did the Kansas City Auto Show. Many times I think they used set-up people from the local unions and/or that division.
Some of the major auto shows he was likely at were Chicago (naturally), Detroit, New York, Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Around the country, the automotive/truck client may have been using exhibit pieces designed and built originally in Illinois, here near Chicago, but set up by local people.
@geoff-jowett Geoff; the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the tiny Honda ad/pic amongst the others was David vs. Goliath. Who could have ever foreseen the future impact it would have on the North American market.
