I just got this one last month, gorgeous, unique model, saw it a few minutes ago on eBay at what I think is a great price. The seller has a lot of models, check it out!
Hey Tony, I answered you on the wrong post, so glad it’s not mandatory to be smart to be able to participate! When I looked up the ‘36 I realized I did know the model, I thought it was just a repaint on the ‘39. I didn’t bother to get my facts straight because I didn’t care for the paint treatment, it didn’t look ‘30’s to me, kind of like the FM ‘30 Tudor Sedan in a similar paint scheme. To me the same model screamed ‘30’s in green. It’s just a personal thing with me, I’m definitely not criticizing anyone’s taste. Thanks for your help and pics. I always appreciate you!

Yes, the two-tone scheme does not immediately make you thing of a 30's car at all. And thanks for the reminder - we have the "Dirty Harry" series on DVD and haven't watched them in a while - gotta break them out and start again! You made my day!
To me, the models remind me of the 80’s and ‘90’s mild customs you would see at a local car show, cool at the time, but like you said, not period correct. You know, until I saw that photo I’d always thought Callahan carried a Smith & Wesson model 29, .44 magnum, but I can clearly see it’s a 12 gauge pistol!

HA! In one of the series films, 2nd or 3rd, he offhand mentions that he actually shoots .44 Special loads in his gun to minimize recoil and enable a faster, 'return to battery'. The .44 Magnum shoots both calibers like with a .357 Mag which also shoots .38 Special ammunition.
As a handloader for the last 57+ years I load all four of these calibers.
My late older brother and I sat in the theater through 4 showings of Dirty Harry. Over the years I’ve probably seen it a dozen more. The very next day my brother drove us straight to the local gun and archery store to purchase said Smith. The only only Model 29 in stock was an 8 incher, a couple inches longer than Harry’s. We had a lot of fun with that revolver until he started reloading. He would always overdo everything and thought it was funny to have unknowing friends shoot his overloads. Everything’s fine and dandy till blow out your cylinder and top strap. I’ve had a few 29’s come and go over the years, but got rid of most of my firearms years ago. A few regrets (4” blue Python, Custom 2” 29, 1930 Win. ‘94, Colt Custom high polish Govt .45) overwise mostly OK.

Those original Pythons (Royal Blue and Stainless) are a prized piece. The newer ones are more readily available but lack the collectability. Same with the older Government .45's.
