If you want visions of Medieval Heaven and Hell, there's the works of the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch.Â
If you're into the mysticism, symbolism and esoterica of the Hippie culture of the 1960s, there's Robert Richard Hieronimus, artist, educator, author and activist. His works drew from a myriad of ancient cultures with his own mystical twist. This example of his murals is known as "The Egyptian Wall"(and ceiling) that's part of his full room "Apocalypse" mural that adorns the Levering Hall at John Hopkins University.
Symbolic of the Hippie Nomadic phenomenon as well as the original Woodstock vibe would be this 1963 Volkswagen Combi bus known as the "Light" bus. The owner, Bob Grimm had asked Heironimus to paint this van that would transport his band, Light, to the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. Hieronymus had already established himself in the psychedelic world traveling with the likes of Jimi Hendrix. The Doors and Janis Joplin through his connection with Elektra Records. The van became one of the iconic symbols of the event with a photo appearing in the liner notes of the album.
The original van was left to rot and is no more. In the search for the van, a 1963 VW van was found and restored with Dr Bob Hieronimus and 5 other artists meticulously recreated the original for the 50th anniversary. For the 40th anniversary, Sun Star created this 1/12 scale model to commemorate the event in 2009. I always wished I could have gone to Woodstock, but, unfortunately I was 12,000 miles away working for my Uncle Sam at the time.

I`d ask Rich ahead of time.....but I bet a sack of your smoked bologna gears would be quite well received by all in attendance 🤨
@100ford2003 ???  LOL, that hubcap appeared, to my eyes, upside down so the curve made it look slightly bent or out of round. I've either got to get a bigger phone or a laptop.
Thanks RichÂ
"I waaaant a magic bus!"
What the heck? I've NEVER seen this particular 1/12 Sunstar, wow! I bought a 1/12 VW convertible years ago just to have those removable wheels...but this bus, with that crazy paint and all that scale gear is way cooler! Groovy man, gruuuu-vey!  😎 😎 😎Â
Hieronymus Bosch died in the 1500s but I have long admired his work on aspects of purgatory and hell. He matched Dante's literature with art.
Robert Richard Hieronimus, an American, is my age and must have been impressed with his namesake as he has certainly done a master class mural on that VW Bus.
I really enjoyed this post, Rich.
