The Jaguar XJ 220 began as a Mid-engined concept sports car from a partnership between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing and it debuted in 1988 at the British International Motor Show in Birmingham, England . This projected 220 mph rocket was powered by a TWR 6.2 liter V12 producing 500 hp. 281 if these cars were produced from 1992 to 1994. Actually the highest speed recorded was 212.3 mph at the Nardo track in Italy. Due to emission issues and a desire to lighten the car, the production cars actually wound up with an Austin-Rover 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6. This is the engine, at 500hp that finally gave the car its 220+ credentials after removing its twin catalytic converters and raising the rev limit to 7900 rpm.
This 1/12 scale model by Maisto was quite a surprise and demonstrated what that company's capabilities could be.
Wonderful model and a great centrepiece for a Jaguar display. I had this in on case with a 1/8 scale Jaguar E-Type centring another. Great post. Thanks Rich.

Is the 1/8 XKE a kit build?
Yes, I have the Monogram E-Type done in black from many years ago. I also have a Tamiya version in 1/8, as yet unbuilt.
