What is the most detailed 1:18 scale Camaro diecast model of all time ?

My best guess would be the Lane Collectibles series....

Go to the car Lists and Reviews and take a look at the many iterations of '67 and '68 Camaros. They are old tech but I can't think of any better in this scale.
This is one of the many Lanes.

I'd also look at Highway 61, and the Supercar Collectibles versions of their tooling. A little more recent tech, lots of variety. Body proportions are pleasing to my eye. I have the Yenko pictured below + several others. Check CarList & Reviews for the many versions. Good value for the $. Also, if you live on the edge and slip down to 1/20 scale, the Revell Creative Masters '69 cars were at one time considered by some collectors as the best ever.

I was tempted to mention the 1/20 CMs also. I still love them.

Didn't GMP use the Lane tooling as a basis for these racers?

I don't believe so since the GMP Camaros have the Trans Am body which has wider rear wheel wells.

GMP's rendition of Smokey Yunick's Camaro is at the very pinacle of my favourite models.

Gas, Clutch, Brake, Emergency Brake. With e-brake a little large, but nice they added it.

Well, in your defense, the emergency brake pedal is out of scale and too big ...

... and too close in relation to the other pedals. You get a pass.
