The competition for the Car of the Future was fierce at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. The exhibits included a Cadillac V16 Aerodynamic Coupe, the Duesenberg "20 Grand" and the V12 Packard Sports "Car of the Dome" all in the Travel and Transport Building along with the new streamlined "Zephyr" locomotive and the Graf Zeppelin visiting overhead from Germany. This body#1 of 5 V12 Silver Arrows definitely stood out from the pack with it continuous sheet metal that  covered the roof all the way to the end of the car. The spares were enclosed in the fenders, the door handles were flush from the airstream. The interior was step down 15 years before the "Fabulous Hudsons". Add an automatic clutch and power brakes. There appears to be no color photos of its debut in Chicago, but from the B&W photos and the recollections of retired Pierce employees, it appears that the #1 car wasn't silver at all, but rather tutone tan. The #1 car was found in the early 1950s and was restored and held in various collections until it was auctioned off by Sotheby's in Hershey, Pa for $2,310,000. This Yat Ming Signature model of the restored #1 car offered tremendous bang for the buck and finally allowed me to retire that horrible Danbury Mint 1/24 model.

Fine images of this real eye-catching low-production beauty ! I have this one in black with silver highlights in 1/18 diecast from them. I always thought that"Signature" was a different company (although confusedly so) than diecast models from "Yat Ming Signature Series" diecasts.

Certainly in any case this one is an absolute stunner in all aspects. I am really happy I was able to get on of these diecast models .....  although if I actually had one of the real automobiles in 1:1, I would be a pretty rich collector indeed, lol !

Nice pics of unique automobile.  I agree that this Signature offers much bang for the buck, but I passed only because they tooled just ONE opening spare-wheel door. Both sides should open.  It's very similar to their 1937 Pontiac.. .. only ONE side of the hood opens.  😔 ☹️ 😡

Imagine seeing this in 1933?   Wow!  😮

Another wonderful post. Has anyone made a two tone tan version? Mine (1/43) are all silver.
