I would dearly love to get a '68 or '69 winner that looks as nice on the exterior as Spark AND has opening features. Neither the Solido nor the Jouef do it for me, and while the Beanstalk looks promising, it doesn't even have the right number! I'm surprised Shelby Collectibles didn't make one.

@paul-rouffa Sadly this car for some reason was not made by a higher end line with opening features, Spark has done both the 1968 and 1969 cars and Amalgam has done the 1969 car but both companies are closed models but both have done a very good job representing the car.

I just received notice that the Amalgam 1969 GT40 MKI I ordered has shipped and is coming via DHL, I have never seen or held an Amalgam model and I had the money in my toy fund so decided to pull the trigger to see what all the fuss is about. The photos I have seen of the Amalgam show they did more detail work on it than Spark did. When I get the Amalgam GT40 MKI I am going to do a comparison review of the two cars. There are some differences between the 1968 and 1969 versions but over all the car is the same chassis number 1075 with some small upgrades for the 1969 car.

I ordered the Amalgam through Legacy Diecast who I have purchased other diecast in the past including my 1968 Firebird 400 Zone 3 car back in the early 2000's.

The #6 Ford GT40 Coupe that won LeMans the next year (1969) was made in fine detail in 1:20th scale by Revell's Creative Masters. Signed display board by both drivers, Jackie Oliver and Jacky Ickx.

Very nice, Tony! I wonder how it would look next to all my other 1/18 race cars?

I have the Solido 1968 car & while it isn't the most detailed, I do think it looks great on display.

I notice both the Revell and Solido got the paint wrong, both of them made the orange paint straight on the front of the fenders instead of the orange paint being angled upwards. The Revell also has the right side Gulf Decals wrong as well. The Solido also got the door number decal wrong as well. I know little things but these items should have been correct.

Slightly smaller Paul - I think it would be noticeable.

You are correct John. It is slight but inaccurate. The real car:

Yep!  That front orange paint is a bit wrong, as John noted, but it does sit very well, especially in the rear. It's looks pretty beefy!   😬 😬

@paul-rouffa If you don't mind the scale difference at 1/20, these 30-odd year old Revell Creative Masters Gulf #6 and #9 were way ahead of their time with pretty high parts count and finger fun.
