Only 6 mid-engine AMX/3s were ever built before AMC shut down the program. Depending on the source, this is either #2 or #4, but it is the one that was tested at Monza by BMW. Engineered by Bizzarini, power for the AMX/3 was supplied by AMC's 390 cubic inch V-8 producing 340hp paired with an OTO Melara 5-speed transaxle. BMW testers got the car up to 145mph before experiencing lift. After AMC shut the program down, this AMX/3 went through three owners from Indianapolis before it was sold to Walter Kirtland of Baton Rouge, LA, who restored it in order to present it at the 1990 Pebble Beach Concours. Kirtland then sold the car in 2014 to Düsseldorf collector Jurgen Wilms. Wilms did another restoration which included changing the original red exterior to a period-correct AMC P79 Bittersweet Orange. He then returned the car to Pebble Beach in 2016, where it became the first American Motors car to win its class.
I was not familiar with MK Miniatures before purchasing this model. Replicarz says MK Miniatures compares favorably with Tecnomodel, and I will take their word for it. The car came in a gorgeous red box, and the plinth was a stitched leather-like material; removing the screws was bit of a chore as I didn't realize they were hidden on the bottom of the plinth. Though this is a resin model, it's really quite hefty, and it displays very nicely next to my yellow 365 GTB/4.
What a shame AMC didn't produce this car!
A really nice one and a fine replica of this quite interesting and stylish AMC dream car !
Here is a link that talks about all six of the cars and there is a 7th chassis that was completed, all are still accounted for.
That is one beautiful model of a handsome, stylishly designed automobile.
I like it today more than some of the other supercars that are on the roads these days.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again give me a blank check and what I'll be looking for is a bone stock 1972 Pantera. I just can't decide what color I'd like. Red or yellow..
But if I had a chance to own that AMX3, believe me I'd be there in a heartbeat.
That's a great looking car. First I've heard of it.

Paul, what a beautiful model and a very informative post. John, reference provided additional information. All in, an impressive post. Thanks guys.
Wow! This is all news to me. I didn't know ANYTHING about the existence of this car! Replicarz is selling the model. Now, where can I shoehorn it into the space I don't have?

G'dmorning Marty,
I've got shelf space available right now. And since we're less than a hundred miles apart in SoCal you can come visit it whenever you want. How's that for solving your problem 👍🤔
And on the plus side you're visiting will enable you to use your right foot to exercise your Vette. It's a win-win situation ! 😂

Marty, I'm stunned you hadn't heard of the car. I'm pretty sure you're the right age.
