Love the JPS livery. My first ever 1:18 was an old Corgi 72 in JPS (when I was 3). Still have it somewhere.
So, no front wing on this? Looks naked without.
While not a particularly successful Lotus with only one victory in 1982, Colin Chapman once again showed his genius with this carbon fibre ground effects design. It was hampered by having an outdated Ford Cosworth engine in a new turbo era. With a better engine it might have been a championship winner. This is a beautiful well built model, John.Â
@gavin Like David said this was a ground effects car and it made so much down force a front wing was not required in this configuration, the Ford Cosworth engine was the weak link, the Turbo era had arrived and the none turbo Cosworth V-8 while a great engine could not compete head to head with the turbo charged engines that were entering Formula One. Lotus did get an engine deal with Renault for the 1983 season.
@david-green This is a resin model so it is purely a static display piece, the tires do not roll nor do the front tires turn, but this is a very nice looking car and being a ground effects design is unique looking not having the front wing, add the black and gold John Player Special paint scheme which in my opinion is one of if not the most iconic paint/sponsor scheme in Formula One history I had to have this car.

Fascinating stuff, thanks for the history. Very cool to see the innovation/experimentation at work.
@john3976 Yes, that is a TSM model and I think one of their best.
from a development point of view
Not to mention historic.
