Completed in February, 1962, the race prepped roadster was originally painted pearl yellow and sent to the March New York Auto Show to hopefully get enough deposits to continue production. It was brought back to Santa Fe Springs, California and repainted and prepped to start getting racing credentials. Shelby hadn't decided on a design for the Cobra badge so "Cobra" was painted on the hood and deck lid. The single 4 bbl Carburetor 260 Cid V8 was pushed to 260 HP. Weighing only 2100 lbs, this first roadster could hit 140 mph. Later, 335 HP could be squeezed from the 260. This car, driven by Dave McDonald, was the Cobra's first racing victory at the Riverside SCCA event in 1963. From 1962 to 1963 only 75 of the 260 Cobra Mkl were built before switching to the 289 Cobra Mkll. Model by Exoto:
Love the pictures and details Rich.
@chris I don't know if it's incorrect. With FIA and SCCA rules that the car must carry a spare. A lot of cars were equipped with unusable miniature spares.
What do you think those 7 toggle switches worked or were used for back then when a car was a car and not a rolling computer ? Just asking 🤔
@100ford2003 search "1962 cobra dashboard" (or any year). It's like no two dashboards were alike. I remember seeing one where the toggles were labeled, but darned if I can find it now.

Thanks Rich 👍
@rich-sufficool You are correct and also on pit stops they had to remove the spare tire and touch the ground with it then replace it back into the car, a smaller tire would be lighter and make sense.

- Makes perfect sense guys, thank you. Yet, with regards to my "street Cobra," I'm convince Exoto screwed up. They realized their spare-wheel well wasn't large enough, so they quickly tooled up a slightly smaller tire - which worked - as I appear to be the ONLY person complaining about it. 🤨 🤨
