These are great models, and easy to modify. I made mine a little bit more accurate for the last race of Dan Gurney's career, at the Mission Bell 500 race in 1970photo no longer available
Christopher, what mods did you do? I'l be interested in seeing
If you look at pic I added to my post, you can see a few of them
I removed the large "Hot wheels" printing, and added more accurate ones and placed them better. Although I cannot find a scale "AAR" name and badge to relocate that better yet.
I placed the "Dan Gurney" name correctly, and arranged the sponsor decals better, including adding the "BELL" helmets decal on quarter panel.
I removed the rainbow colored rear panel, and painted it to match body color.
I removed the trunk #48, and moved to to the other side of the trunk as it was for that race. I lowered the front end, and added red headlight covers as in this race they were red. Painted out the while "plymouth" badge on grille, this was not there.
I also replaced the exhaust outlets from the bent versions to a straight pipe with angled opening to match the car as it appeared for that race. I'm still trying to figure out how to build a racing multi lens rear view mirror, as the car had one, and I removed the chrome single mirror in the model. not correct for this race. Added foam padding to inside roll cage where correct.
Filled in the highway 61 mirror holes in the doors, and now am looking at engine bay and engine updates. this is all an attempt to depict the car as it appears Oct 4, 1970 at the Mission Bell 250 Trans am Race, Riverside, Ca. Dan Gurney's last race.
