The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut" Coupe was the road legal variant of their last generation of "Silver Arrows" when Mercedes stopped their racing program in 1955 after a horrendous accident at LeMans left scores of people dead or injured. This classic gull-wing was Chief Designer and Engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut was one of two built on a W196 chassis originally intended for the Mexican Carrera Panamerica race. He took this car for his personal use and fitted it with a huge muffler to quiet it down. The redesigned bodies on the two cars were the cleanest design of the 9 300SLRs built. Credit for mine goes to Marty, I had it in 1:24 but decided to buy the 1:18 CMC with red interior after he posted pictures here, if not mistaken I paid $250 on the secondary market. I think it was my first or maybe second (after Bugatti Atlantic) 1:18 CMC ...
Thanks @marty-johnson
I have the CMC version with muffler. The model never ceases to attract questions when tours come through looking at my collection.
