was filed by Porsche AG in Munich, Bavaria. It read: "The invention relates to passenger car with a rear spoiler..... as an aerodynamic device in the rear to increase the dynamic rear wheel pressure". And so, the "Ducktail" was born. The device was to be used on Porsche's latest 911 variant, the Carrera RS 2.7. This car was first developed as a homologation special requiring 500 unites to be built thereby qualifying it for Group 4 Special GT class with both race and touring being built. Designed as a lightweight fast sports car, the aerodynamic add-on brought 911 overall performance to a whole new level. The "Carrera" name was a tribute to the Porsche 550 that won the Mexican Carrera Panamericana in 1953. The car was offered in a palette of eye-catching colors. This model is finished in Blood Orange.
In the early 70's, a family (that owned a nursery ) at the end of my street, had one. I was just a kid and thought, "Why would anyone want to drive around with those stupid daisy wheels? Years later, I learned to appreciate the details of this car a little better. 😏
@chris Yeah, I always thought they looked like the fake 'mag wheel' wheel covers you could by out of the J C Whitney catalog back in the day.
@gavin My first 2.7 Carrera was a 1/43 Jouef in white with the call outs in this orange.
@rich-sufficool, I had one of those. The engine detail was amazing for its time.

Nice ! A real standout in any scale. Who makes the red Porsche beauty ?
@jkuvakas I still have it along with all their Ferraris and GT40s. They, along with their 1/24s seemed like jewels 30 years ago.

Rich's orange one is by AutoArt. My white one is by Minichamps.

Thanks ! I am not so familiar with a number of the 1/18 replicas by either of them and perhaps others may not be, too. They are certainly spectacular and quite detailed !
