This 1954 Buick Wildcat ll was another fiberglass bodied luxury sports car inspired by the Corvette. "Tomorrow's Design" actually had retro styling cues including 'flying wing' '30s speedster-like front fenders, biplane bumpers with "Dagmar" bumper guards and free-standing headlamps. This concept was fully drive-able powered by a 322 cid V8. It now resides at the Sloan Museum in Michigan within their extensive Buick collection.
I really like this strange looking design; especially the tail end. So that's where the '61 imperial headlight design originated.
I have this model in my collection, including all other 10 examples.
I do not have the strange colors that came later.

Hmmm, I think Elwood Engel would probably disagree about this being the inspiration for the '61 Imperial headlights, as he seems to have intended the Imperial front end and headlights to be a styling tribute to the classic luxury designs from the 1920's and 1930's.
@mikedetorrice I'm thinking that Engel was prompted to consider this feature when he viewed this concept car, which I agree was the tribute you mention.
