From 1982 to 1984, 28 Porsche 956 cars were built and they were world beaters. The small 2.65 liter turbo flat six, originally built for Indy racing, produced a mammoth 635 hp. The first Porsche designed with ground effect could, in one configuration, was said to be able to run upside and one car is displayed as such.
Lightning fast through tough road courses, it set a lap record at the Nurburgring that held for 35 years. The Rothmans sponsored factory team 956Ls with a less aggressive wing configuration for higher speeds on the straights were so dominant at Le Mans that they could engineer a Ford/Ferrari style 1-2-3 finish with their numbers corresponding to their place. I love the car and the model by AUTOart is quite the museum quality replica. what drove me nuts about the model was the deletion of the Rothmans brand on the models being replaced by "Racing". I already had a 959 Dakar model with the same perversion of its livery. The only thing that made me feel a bit better is that one of the #1 Rothmans liveried clone on display has also sports the "Racing" livery.
Here's the model:

A spectacular car and AUTOart model ! I personally am not in favor of political correctness altering model cars etc in any way. so I would always like to see it was originally done. That goes for cars, tanks, planes battleships, etc. There is no doubt, however, this is a great looking automobile !
I absolutely love the 956 & its successor, the 962. I have the same Rothmans Le Mans Winner with the Racing decals. From what I remember, the Rothmans decals are underneath & many collectors removed them. I wasn't confident in my abilities, so I left it as is. Â
Quick correction @rich-sufficool, this is by Minichamps, not AutoArt.
Rothmans & Kenwood 956s by Minichamps, Shell 962 by Univeral Hobbies.
