Here is the gorgeous 1970 Chevrolet 454 Monte Carlo personal luxury car as done in 1/18 by Ertl in Elite form, which was between Authentics and regular Ertl in price/detail sequence. The '70 Monte Carlo was certainly a great looking and performing automobile and reproduced beautifully 1/18 scale form.
Not bad, not bad at all... especially in pic #4 !
But seriously, what were they thinking with that chrome / silver door edge guard ?
IMO that's gotta go !

Do cars and sexy women really mix? Silly question! Nice post Mike.

It is generally accurate to some cars, especially back then and it does make some sense. It doesn't really bother me, and more so when the car itself is so beautiful !
You are right but I always thought they looked wrong. Just make them the body color.
I think perhaps they were probably more worried about possible chipped paint showing up on a painted guard or the door itself from an impact and possibly thought a simple chromed metal part might not show dings so much. I believe such a chomed protector was optional so it could be ok and correct in either configuration.
Yes, chrome door edge-guards were dealer installed options back in the day, but I've always hated them. However, it's pretty neat that Ertl chose to replicate them....it is period correct. I do believe other versions of this very nice Monte can be had without these door guards.
I think you could get them either way and it is nice it is also modeled both ways, too.

Yep, they most certainly do, David !
