While Ford sought to overthrow Ferrari, Porsche sought to overthrow the Dino 206S in the small displacement class. In its February, 1966 debut at Daytona this Porsche 906 Carrera 6 with its 220 hp, 2.0 liter 6. After 24 hours, this car, driven by Hans Herrmann and Herbert Linge finished 6th overall and handily beat the Dino in its class. With 50 of this series built for FIA homologation, the 906 went on to win multiple class wins including Sebring and the 1000km of Monza.
Outstanding Porsches ! All of them embody the sleek look of a true road race machine.
@mikedetorrice Right you are Mike. This was a great time in racing history when they were still finding their way in the world of ground effects and aerodynamics and evolved into these two heroic Le Mans cars of 1968 and 1969
@gavin They are indeed both models from Spark - and thus sealed models
The #66 is a 907 long tail and was the second place finisher at Le Mans in 1968 to the Gulf Ford GT
The #64 is a 908 long tail that was the second place finisher at Le Mans in 1969 also to the Gulf Ford GT in one of the most epic battles in Le Mans history. Interestingly the lead Ford driver was Jackie Ickx who would go on to win a total of 6 Le Mans races - 4 of them for Porsche.
